Anakin and Padmé are having a discussion of democracy vs. authoritarian ruling. Padmé, a public servant, asks Anakin why he doesn’t like politicians. They both agree that the politicians need to “sit down and discuss the problem, agree what’s in the best interest of all the people, and then do it.” Padmé explains that sometimes they don’t all agree. Anakin believes that someone should make them do what is best, which is more authoritarian since there is an individual forcing the elected politicians to do what they think is best. Padmé supports Democracy, a system in which individuals vote for elected officials to represent them in policymaking. Anakin is in favor of an Authoritarian Government, a system in which there is one strong central power that makes all of the decisions.
